What should I wear for my session?
First and foremost, remember that you are unique. Furthermore ( I love that word), you are fearfully and wonderfully made!
My goal as a photographer is to capture YOU, not your clothing. I want your face and expression to stand out in your portraits... Everything else is secondary. That being said... clothes ARE required. (Ha!)
Clothes are also are a great way to express your style. You know, who YOU are, What you're all about, how you roll...
So, keeping in mind that for every rule there is an exception, I have listed a few clothing tips that most photographers agree photograph well.
• When photographed against a medium or dark background, dark or medium toned colors photograph best for your close-up poses. And of course, darker shades are more slimming.
• For shirts and tops, avoid colors that are too similar to your skin color. (These might be a brown, beige, tan, or very pale peach, and very pale gray). For many people these shades can drain the color from your face, making you appear washed-out.
• If you have chosen a session that includes multiple looks, bring a variety of color, don't bring all blue outfits even if it is your favorite color. Change up the style, bring some dressy, some semi-dressy, and some casual outfits that express who you are.
• When planning your outfits think about your complete look from head to toe. We will taking photos that are close-up, full length, and some in between. So you want to think about shoes and accessories too.
• Wear a neckline that is flattering to your face and neck: Round faces, square jaw lines, or shorter necks look best in a v-neck as opposed to a round or crew neck. Thin faces, pointy chins, and very long necks look better in a boatneck, crew neck, or round neckline.
• Avoid tops with large, contrasty, distracting patterns. Solid colors are much better. Unless your arms are super-skinny, avoid short sleeves because they make arms look heavier and shorter. If you feel your arms are heavy, sleeveless looks are great but avoid "spaghetti" straps. They too can draw attention away from the face.
• Pick the colors you really like. Chances are, they're colors others say look really good on you, too.
• Textures are great, as are interesting hats, belts, jackets and scarves.
• Guys: You can choose your jeans, casual or sports wear, letterman jacket. You may want to bring your sports uniform and equipment.
• Guys: A sport coat and pants work great for a dressier look. An alternative look would be a dress shirt and a sweater that is a solid color or has a slight pattern. If you want to wear only a dress shirt and tie, wear a colored shirt. White shirts look best under a jacket.
• Avoid anything with logos, graphics, characters, labels, etc. These tend to take the “finished” look of a professional portrait down a few notches, can be distracting
• If anyone is needing a trip to the salon, be sure to let the hair cut grow out a week or so in order to look most natural.
• Don’t make everyone wear all the same color … matching is boring and dated. Coordinate colors and looks, letting everyone have their own spin on the color palette. And please no families all dressed in khaki pants, or all in denim and white shirts.
• No bright white socks and no sneakers unless we’re talking about something fashion forward and simple like Converse.
Outfits for Family Sessions
• My main advice is to pick an outfit that you love (for yourself, your husband, or one of your children) and then, build around that outfit by pulling together complimentary (not match-matchy) outfits for the others in the family.
• Another thing that I like to tell families: it is nice to look at Pinterest and other media sources for clothing ideas, but always remember to be true to who you are. Don't try to be somebody else's ideal family... A photo that you will treasure in 20 years, is one that reflects who you are today.

You will want to schedule your portraits either in the afternoon/evening time or in the morning when the light is the best.
Where should we take our pictures?

I have a portable dressing room that you may use for privacy.

Since I am (mostly) a natural light photographer, we must work around this fickle Ohio weather! All weather-related cancellations will be automatically rebooked.
Where are you located?
Cincinnati, Ohio
Do you shoot weddings and events?
I am not a wedding photographer. However, I do photograph special events such as: birthday parties, banquets, retirement parties, dedications, etc.
